As of October 2026, the Lake Mountain School District is set to take over operations on July 1, 2027, serving Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs, Cedar Fort and Fairfield. It’s one of three new districts replacing Alpine School District. A seven-member board has been in place since November 2025, Dr. Vicki Carter is the first superintendent, and under state law, employees assigned to a school stay at that school. Bigger changes are coming for Eagle Mountain, including a new elementary school and a planned education campus with a new high school. Your child’s school isn’t moving.
I live in Eagle Mountain, and I’m so excited about what’s coming for our schools!! I also want to be honest about what we don’t know yet, because that’s the part families ask about most.
The Basics
Lake Mountain covers the cities west of Utah Lake: Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs, Cedar Fort and Fairfield. Voters approved the Alpine split in November 2024, and the new district takes over everything on July 1, 2027. We covered all three new districts in our post on the Alpine School District split, and this one goes deeper on our side of the lake.
Who’s Running It
The district’s first board was elected in November 2025 and sworn in that month at the Saratoga Springs city offices. Julie King is the board president. After a search that drew more than 20 applicants and included a 30-member community committee, the board named Dr. Vicki Carter as superintendent and Dr. Amanda Bollinger as deputy superintendent. The district’s offices are at 1307 N. Commerce Drive in Saratoga Springs.
What Stays the Same
This is the part I want every parent to hear: your kids aren’t going to a different school because of the split. Here’s what state law (SB 188) says about the transition:
Employees assigned to a school stay at that school and become employees of the district where the school is located.
Salaries can’t decrease in the first year in the new district.
Employees keep the tenure they earned at Alpine.
The new districts start with Alpine’s existing policies, including salary and benefits, and boards can change them later.
So a lot of the day-to-day will look familiar. I love that for our kids..
What’s New in Eagle Mountain
Juniper Basin Elementary. This new school is now open. It draws students from the Cedar Fort, White Hills and Fairfield neighborhoods and absorb students from Cedar Valley Elementary, which the boards voted to close because the building could only fit one classroom per grade. Early plans expected about 800 students, and the mascot is the Kestrel Falcon.
A new middle school. Eagle Mountain’s newest middle school. Like every school in the area, it’s part of Alpine School District today and becomes part of Lake Mountain on July 1, 2027. If you’re in the neighborhood and have questions about boundaries or enrollment, the main office is at 385-579-7530.
A new high school and a college campus. Cedar Valley High School will be joined by a new high school in City Center. The district’s plan is a 100-acre education campus west of Eagle Mountain Boulevard and north of Midvalley Road, with 60 acres for a new Eagle Mountain high school and 20 acres each for a Utah Valley University campus and an MTECH campus, right next to a planned Intermountain Health hospital. The district’s board president said the site cost roughly $20 million, including 21 acres donated by the developer, and an MTECH study found a campus here would immediately have about 900 students.
I know how much that matters to families. A real path from high school to technical training or college without leaving town is amazing.
What About Saratoga Springs?
According to the city, Saratoga Springs has Westlake High School, two middle schools (Vista Heights and Lake Mountain Middle) and eight elementary schools in the current district, plus three charter schools. Those schools will be part of Lake Mountain too.
What I Can’t Tell You Yet
I’d rather be upfront about these:
Property taxes. The new board will set its own rate. As of this writing, I haven’t seen first-year rates published for any of the three new districts, and the school district is usually the biggest piece of your bill. On a sample Utah County notice we looked at, schools were about 73% of the total. You’ll see the numbers in your Truth in Taxation notice next summer. Our Eagle Mountain property tax update covers the city’s piece.
When the new high school opens. District officials haven’t announced a date. The board president said it takes about three years to build one, so it’s still several years out. UVU and MTECH also need funding approved by the legislature.
What it does to home values. There’s no data on that yet, and I’d be skeptical of anyone who tells you they know.
What the Market Looks Like Right Now
In September 2026, Eagle Mountain’s median sold price was $509,000, up 7.7% from a year earlier, on 94 sales, with homes taking a median of 46 days and selling at 101.5% of list. Saratoga Springs’ median was $542,450, up 17.9%, on 110 sales, at 42 days and 100.5% of list. You can see every city in our September 2026 market report.
If You’re Buying or Selling
Buyers: Don’t just ask whether a home is “in Lake Mountain.” Ask which specific schools it’s assigned to, and confirm with the district. Boundaries are shifting as new schools open, and Juniper Basin is a good example. And I’d be careful about buying specifically for a school that hasn’t opened yet, since timelines can change.
Sellers: Know your assigned schools and any new ones nearby. It’s one of the first things buyers ask about, and being able to answer clearly helps.
A Note From Me
I live in Eagle Mountain, and I’m passionate about this city and the families who call it home. Whether you’re curious about schools, wondering what your home is worth, or thinking about moving here, I’d genuinely love to help. Reach out to me anytime. No question is too small!!
