One of the things people don't always anticipate when they move to Utah County is how much happens here in the summer. It's not flashy, but if you know where to look, there's something going on almost every weekend from now through August; and a lot of it is genuinely good.

SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre, Orem
If you haven't been to the SCERA Shell, it belongs near the top of your list. It's located in Orem at 699 South State Street, and it has been voted Best Live Music Venue, Best Live Theatre, Best Date Place, and Best Family Entertainment Venue in Utah Valley; not once, but consistently. There's a reason for that.
The Shell hosts a mix of musicals, concerts, and outdoor movies through August. Outdoor movies screen Wednesday evenings at dusk, with the next one on July 15. Saturday night ballroom dance lessons run every Saturday through August starting July 11, with beginning and intermediate classes teaching a new style each week. Gates open at 5:30 and classes begin around 6.

Spanish Fork Fiesta Days, July 18-25
Fiesta Days is one of the most energetic summer celebrations in Utah Valley and one of the largest PRCA rodeos in the state. It runs July 18 through 25 at the Spanish Fork Fairgrounds and includes a full week of parades, concerts, fireworks, and rodeo events featuring top-tier competitors.
If you've never been to a PRCA rodeo, Fiesta Days is a good introduction. The combination of the rodeo with the broader festival atmosphere — the food, the crowds, the fireworks — makes it a full event rather than just a competition. Worth the drive to Spanish Fork if you're north county.
Springville World Folkfest, July 30th-August 1
This is the one most Utah County residents have heard of but never actually gone to, and that's a mistake worth correcting this year.
The Springville World Folkfest has transformed a quiet suburban town into a vibrant crossroads of global culture since 1986. This year marks its 40th anniversary. It's Utah's only international folk dance festival and one of the largest events of its kind in the western United States. Hundreds of performers from countries across the world bring traditional costumes, instruments, and choreographies to Spring Acres Arts Park in Springville.
The festival runs Wednesday through Saturday with the Parade of Nations and Community Extravaganza on Tuesday at 6:00 PM at University Place in Orem. Each night, doors open at 5:30 PM with pre-show activities, food trucks, and interactive meet-and-greet experiences before the main show begins at 7:30 PM.
Tickets run approximately $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and students, and $7 for kids. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Arriving at 5:30 for the pre-show and food trucks is worth it.
The host family program that makes this festival genuinely unusual: Springville residents open their homes to performers, which creates a level of cultural connection a stage performance alone doesn't. If you've lived in Utah County for years and never gone, the 40th anniversary is the year to change that.
Provo River Tubing, Vivian Park
Not an event with a date, but worth putting on the list for any summer weekend. Provo River tubing through Vivian Park in the canyon runs June through August and is one of the most accessible outdoor activities in Utah County. Several outfitters along US-189 offer tube rentals and shuttles. Morning trips are cooler and less crowded. Worth going early in the day.
Sundance Mountain Resort
Sundance runs scenic chairlift rides daily through October, and the mountain setting is worth the trip even without a specific event on the calendar. The Foundry Grill hosts a delicious Sunday brunch from 9 AM to 2 PM with canyon views, which is worth knowing about if you have family or clients visiting who want something memorable but not a production.
